Sustainable buildings can be constructed at any scale, and each new building provides an opportunity to build a more sustainable environment. LEED, Energy Star, and other rating systems provide fantastic benchmarks to work from.
PASSIVE HOUSE
Trilobite Design is focused on designing each new project to Passive House standards. This is an international baseline for energy efficiency and sustainable design focused on an extremely insulated construction, continuous ventilation, and an air-tight shell.
Local jurisdictions provide tax incentives for LEED certification, and we’re working with organizations to provide similar incentives for Passive House certification.
PRACTicALITY
We care about your costs and the possibility of diminishing returns, too! We are continuously researching the best places to invest your construction budget to get the most back. An airtight, insulated, and well-ventilated shell is the bare minimum. But after that, we can pick and choose what Passive House strategies best suit your goals and wallet.
A Pretty Good House is the concept of building as good as it makes sense to build – far better than code-minimum, but not past the point of seeing an energy, comfort, and health benefit for you.

One of our favorite parts about building is that no two solutions are exactly the same. We’re becoming experts in sustainable design in the Midwest, and that matters. Our experience solving unique site problems and building constraints means that we can help your new home achieve your goals even if there are some tricky issues to deal with.
PROJECT TYPES
One of the most important things to acknowledge is that nearly every project type can be built more sustainable. Many incentives can be found in single- and multi-family residential, office buildings, cultural facilities, and schools. But don’t think that your next building can’t be better, too.
